Hot summer days call for cold coffee brews. We hope our District West Gables community members in West Miami, Florida, enjoy these iced coffee ideas.
Iced Coffee Squared
No, this recipe is not some elaborate math problem. However, it does solve the problem of watered-down iced coffee by freezing cubes.
Start with a pot of room temperature coffee and ice cube trays. For variations on the basic iced coffee cubes, consider infusing the brew with other flavors. For mocha iced coffee cubes, blend with milk and chocolate syrup. For a caramel-macchiato blend, infuse with milk and caramel syrup. Stir, pour into the trays and freeze.
Whichever variation you choose, simply refrigerate the pot and combine once cold. You will be enjoying fully flavored iced coffee instead of a watered-down version.
Iced Coffee Freeze Pops
In keeping with the frozen theme, you can turn just about anything into a freeze pop. Try this cold and tasty coffee pop.
Gather these ingredients:
- 1/3 cup of heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
- 2 cups of coffee
How to make:
Refrigerate the two cups of coffee until cold. Mix the heavy cream and one tablespoon of sugar. Pour a small amount into the bottom of the six popsicle molds and freeze. This should take approximately one hour.
Blend the cold coffee into the heavy cream mix. Then blend in the other tablespoon of sugar. Whisk thoroughly. Remove the popsicle molds from the freezer and distribute this mixture evenly. Attach the plastic lid or insert a popsicle stick, depending on your setup. Freeze the coffee popsicles for a minimum of six hours.
Genius of the French Press
One of the things that deter many coffee drinkers from converting hot brews into cool delights is time.
The French press is a terrific problem solver in this area. All you really need to do is boil water before bed and pour grinds and boiling water into the press. Place it in the refrigerator, plunge in the morning and pour over ice. Simple.
